Adidas SL 72 Trainers S78997 were first introduced for the 1972 Olympic games in Munich. The “Super Light” or SL72 was released for athletes looking for a lightweight feel with additional grips on the soles. The shoes were made with experimental materials such as a combination of nylon and leather, but were soon to be worn by celebrities as a casual everyday sports trainers.
Cut to a vintage-narrow fit for a streamlined look, these trainers are constructed with nylon upper with synthetic suede overlays and feature a lace-up closure and EVA midsole for optimum cushioning. The rubber outsole features a vintage-era traction dynamics system for enhanced grip, and the design is complete with the iconic Trefoil logo printed to the heel tab for brand recognition.
