Aquamarine and diamond ring, circa 1900. Aquamarine is a pale blue/greenish blue variety of beryl, the family of minerals which also includes emerald. Its colour, caused by iron impurities, gave it an historic association with water and the ocean, a fact appreciated by sea-farers, who believed it was imbued with protective properties which shielded them from harm during their voyages at sea. Its delicate hue is particularly complemented by jewels of the ‘Belle Epoque’, which used finely worked platinum to create jewels of unsurpassed delicacy and grace. This Belle Epoque ring is set with an oval aquamarine of an unusual greenish hue, most commonly associated with unheated stones, in a typically refined border of antique circular-cut diamonds within stippled millegrain borders – a beautiful harmony between stone and setting.

 Why we love it…

This ring is very pretty, the aquamarine reminds me of the sea… the colour is so tranquil and calming. The diamonds have a gentle sparkle like sunlight on water. The setting has a wonderfully low profile.
